Among the projects that have taken place are the Great Reading Adventure, an annual literacy and history initiative that in 2007 will cover Bristol and the South West, Hull, Glasgow. Liverpool and much of the North West, Electric Pavilion 2005, an exploration of the diversity of Bristol and its cultural life; Creative City 2005, a range of projects across Bristol's creative spectrum; the annual Festival of Ideas, which takes place each May, bringing the best thinkers and writers together for a programme of talks, films, lectures and debates; and the Brunel 200 celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Future plans include the publication and widespread distribution of a graphic history of Bristol to be used in the 2008 Great Reading Adventure; a region-wide celebration in 2009 to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin whose epic voyage on board the Beagle began and ended in the South West; and, in 2010, activities based around the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bristol Aviation Company.
Creative Bristol is also a leading partner in the Science City programme in which the city region has been officially recognised for its continuing excellence in engineering and science, and its potential for increasing future investment in these fields.
Linking all the Creative Bristol activity are extensive research and an integrated marketing initiative.
